Mediterranean Diet

The Living Museum of the Mediterranean Diet is located in Pioppi, an Italian hamlet (frazione) in the municipality of Pollica (Province of Salerno), in Cilento, Campania region.

The Living Museum of the Mediterranean Diet is Pioppi's main tribute to Ancel Keys. It was in Pioppi, in fact, that the American scientist conducted over 40 years of research on the Mediterranean diet, which was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010.

MEDITERRANEAN DIET - HOW IT ONCE WAS

The traditional eating habits of the people of Pioppi are in line with the Mediterranean diet, and include lots of vegetables, legumes, grains, fruit, fish, olive oil and nuts, as well as modest amounts of cheese, yoghurt, small amounts of meat, and no highly processed foods.
